Why do intelligent people tend to feel more anxiety?
Why do intelligent people tend to feel more anxiety?
The greatest prison of an intelligent mind often has no walls.
It is built from thoughts about things that haven’t even happened yet.
It seems that the more developed our minds become, the more room there is for anxiety.
Perhaps it’s because a highly developed mind can look far into the future and easily imagine hundreds of scenarios in which things might not turn out the way we hope.
But there may be another reason, too.
We identify too strongly with our minds, mistakenly believing that our thoughts are the only reality.
What helps us return to inner balance?
When we remember that this life is just one moment in the vast cocktail of existence, one story among countless possible experiences, it becomes much easier to accept uncertainty.
We then begin to realise that not every thought is a fact, not every fear will come true, and not every uncertainty signals danger.
✎ What do you think?
Is anxiety truly the inevitable price of high intelligence, or can we teach our minds to stop clinging to fear and learn to live with greater inner peace?
